Becoming a UK resident or citizen

Securing your rights to stay in the UK

Would you like to apply for Permanent Residency, Indefinite Leave to Remain, or become a British citizen? You can refer to the section about Visas and Immigration and Citizenship on gov.uk but most people who have tried this route found the information given there lacking detail and at times contradictory.

The best place for EU citizens to get advice is the UKCEN group. This group was set up by EU citizens who found the whole application process for PR and citizenship confounding. In their Facebook group they have FAQs where information can be researched and a number of lawyers are helping for free (up to a certain limit). They have been very successful in helping people through the lengthy processes.

Other than this group there is the Citizen Advice Bureau that can assist, and they also support non-EU citizens. Another good website for information is Free Movement, run by lawyer Colin Yeo, but you can only read so many articles per month before being asked for a payment in support.

We have a collection of articles regarding EU free movement rights, helpful agencies, and obtaining permanent residency/citizenship for you available to browse.
